The guest artists have finally been selected and invited for Book of Pandora, so now...we're offering the chance for others we may have overlooked to contribute as well!
Contest Ended: September 15
The current layout plan for the artbook is:
8.5 inches wide x 11 inches tall
approximately 50-56 pages
full color
soft-cover
Keep in mind that the length of the book may vary depending on how many artists participate, and that we may discuss whether the artbook will be hard-cover or soft-cover.
We do not know how many pages will be reserved for the contest, but since the length of the artbook isn't set in stone, we can modify it depending on the entries we receive!
Please note that, to enter the contest, you do not need to be a member of the group! Only participating artists/judges are members of BookOfPandora. However, we encourage you to +Watch the group for updates!
Rules:
Your art must meet all the requirements listed below in Theme, Format and Submission.
You may submit up to three pieces for the contest, but you can only win once.
You must be able to sign a contract (download here), disregarding the terms involving previews.
If you're already a guest artist, there is no need to enter the contest as there is already a spot reserved for you in the artbook!
Since Book of Pandora is a charity artbook with all profits to Doctors Without Borders (more information here), our theme is a gift of hope. One of the ways we are symbolizing this is through our mascot.
Our mascot is a blue box with silver stars; please read the description on this reference for more information. The idea is that this box will be fully closed at the beginning of the artbook, but as a reader flips through the pages, the box will open up
slowly until, at the end of the artbook, it becomes fully open.
If you are seeking to enter the contest you do not need to sign up for a degree of box openness, but it is advised that you look at the sign up list here and pick a degree of openness that hasn't been done too many times already.
To incorporate the overarching theme of this artbook, art should meet these requirements:
must be positive (hopeful, inspiring) or at least neutral (not negative in any way)
must include our mascot (see this reference for information)
must include at least one subject (human or animal) (no fanart)
must be newly created just for this artbook
Note that the mascot box does not need to be the focus of the art piece; it can be placed in the background as long as it is still visible! Incorporate it in any creative way you can think of! Try not to make a landscape picture, though.
Since Pandora's tale is a myth, fantasy (mythical creatures, surreal settings) are allowed, as are things from our daily lives. But please don't include any copyrighted characters (basically, no fanart).
Otherwise, you can do pretty much anything as long as it meets the requirements! Feel free to contact chameleonskyes (email or Note) to clarify anything or discuss any ideas.
Medium: Traditional art or digital art, in color
Size: 8.5 x 11 inches, 300 dpi (or higher)
1. Submit your finished picture on deviantArt. In your artist description, include:
name you want to use in the artbook
country
something indicating that the picture was drawn for Book of Pandora, which is a charity artbook for Doctors Without Borders
a statement indicating that you will be able to sign the contract if you win
2. Submit your work to the appropriate folder in BookOfPandora.
These are the confirmed judges who will select which artists will have their work published in Book of Pandora. We are currently discussing how to select more judges for this contest; details will come later.

Update: Artbook Status
Many apologies for the long period without updates! Here is a brief check-in to let you know the project is still going strong.
For those of you wondering what I was up to in this time period: I'm a high school senior, so from October to the middle of January, I was caught up with college applications, portfolios, and scholarships. Then there were finals, financial aid, and college interviews. The timing was poor planning on my part, and I'm really sorry about that. Things should be much more relaxed now, though, so I can focus on this project. Let's make it happen!
Currently I cannot give an estimate on when preorders will open, but I can
Update: Artbook Status and Facebook Page
From now until preorders open, there will be somewhat-periodic updates about the status of the project, so please check back occasionally!
At the moment I am still waiting on a few submissions. As soon as I receive all of them, I will begin putting the artbook together. Needless to say, I'm very excited about that! I have no experience with designing artbooks, however, so I don't know how long it would take for me to finish; if you have any advice or experience, please do share with me!
I can't guarantee it, but hopefully the Book of Pandora will be out by the holiday season. Please forgive me in advance if there are any delays; although th
Contest Results!
When I first announced the Book of Pandora Artbook Contest, I was worried that few artists would be interested enough to enter. I was having some difficulty inviting guest artists, and I wondered if the low response rate was in some way due to the theme of the artbook. How many artists would actually want to compose a picture around a box? What could possibly be done with a box? A box is just an inanimate thing that I somewhat linked to the legend of Pandora...or is it?
I was absolutely stunned, then, when by the end of the contest BookOfPandora (https://www.deviantart.com/bookofpandora) had received a total of 40 entries, each unique in its own way. I want to thank everyone who
Update: Contest Ended
Hello, everyone! This is just a quick update to announce that the contest is now closed.
The Book of Pandora Artbook Contest received a total of 41 beautiful entries (one of which will be submitted late due to special circumstances). I am, to say the least, very impressed by the variety of entries received and grateful for all your hard work, interest and support! A big thank you to all the artists who entered our contest; I encourage everyone to check out their art!
Winners will be announced after the end of September (after guest artist submissions are completed), so thank you in advance for your patience!
Meanwhile, we are still hoping

Hi quick question referring to the size of the entry. Does the above size include the recommended bleeding area for print??
